•  Participated and presented paper "Objectivity in Literary Criticism" in the 16 th International Congress of International Federation for Modern Languages and Literatures, held in Budapest from 22-27 August 1984; also chaired a section of the Congress.[I was the only scholar from India and also the only Indian scholar to participate in the Congress.

•  My paper "Tennyson's Becket : A Fresh Look" was accepted for presentation in All India English Teachers' Conference, held in Pune from 1-3 December 1984.

•  Participated and presented paper "Mallarme and the Indian Theory of Dhvani " in the International Congress of FILLM held in the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada from 18-26 August 1987. Also chaired a sectional meeting of the Congress. I was the only participant from India .

•  Gave an English talk on Joseph Brodsky on All-India Radio, Calcutta on 02 January 1988 .

•  Gave Seminar lecture on "Andrew Marvell's Treatment of Time in To His Coy Mistress " at North Bengal University on 17 February 1988 .

•  Participated and presented a paper "Joseph Brodsky: Poet" in the International Conference of Indian Association for American Studies held at Rajgir from 22-24 February 1988.

•  Participated and chaired a session in the National Seminar on Indian Literary Historiography conducted by the Department of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University from 26-28 March 1988.

•  Spent two weeks (16-31 August 1988) in London as British Council visitor and studied the unpublished articles and reviews of T.S.Eliot in the British Library, London . Gave a talk on the BBC as part of the centenary celebrations of Eliot's birth.

•  Participated and presented paper " Rajani : A Comparative Approach" in the National Seminar on Comparative Approaches to Literary Texts held in the Department of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University from 29-31 March 1989.

•  Delivered the Valedictory Address at North Bengal University on 21 February 1990 in the National Seminar on Twentieth Century Literature and Criticism.

•  Was one of the 30 scholars invited all over the world to participate in the International Colloquium on "The Influence of Censor on Literature and Films" held in Romania from 1-6 June 1992.

•  Participated and presented paper "Shelley, India and Bengali Poetry" organised by the Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta, on 07 September 1992, on the occasion of the bi-centenary of Shelley's birth .[Professor Kelvin Everest of Liverpool University was one of the participants.]

•  Participated as an invited participant and presented a paper, “Influence of Northrop Frye on Contemporary Indian Literary Criticism” in the International Conference on Northrop Frye held in Victoria University in the University of Toronto, Canada , in October 1992. Was the only participant from India .

•  Participated as an invited participant and presented a paper “Indian Sensibility in Postcolonial Indian English Fiction” and took part in a panel discussion along with two British experts in the International Congress of Asian and North African Studies held in Hong Kong from 22-28 August 1993. Also chaired a session.

•  My paper “Derrida and Bhartrhari : Some Points of Affinity ” was accepted for presentation in a plenary session of World Sanskrit Conference held in Melbourne, Australia , from 10-16 January 1994.

•  Acted as Co-ordinator of 2 nd Refresher Course in English for College and University Teachers in English, held at Academic Staff College , Burdwan University in January 1994.

•  My paper entitled “Problem of Cultural Identity in Anita Desai's Bye Bye Blackbird ” was accepted for presentation in the International Conference of International

•  Delivered Anandeswar Sarma Memorial Lecture at Cotton College , Guwahati on 16 December 1994. The topic was : “From Modernism to Postmodernism.”

•  Participated as an invited participant in the British Council Seminar on “Contemporary British writing” held at Jaimahal Palace Hotel, Jaipur from 19-23 February 1995.

•  My paper “The Novel of Margaret Atwood and Anita Desai : A Feminist Perspective” was accepted for presentation in the international Conference of Cross- Cultural and Comparative Approaches to Canadian Studies held in the University of Birmingham in May 1995. Was also asked to chair a session.

•  Gave a lecture on Aristotle's Poetics on 20 July 1995 in the Refresher Course conducted by the Department of Philosophy, Burdwan University .

•  My paper “Pound's Experimentations with the Noh : Some Critical Observations” was accepted for presentation in the 22 nd Ezra Pound International Conference, “Ends and Beginnings”, to be held in Venice , Italy , 26-29 June 2007.

•  Participated as invited participant and presented paper “Aucitya and Decorum: A Study of Affinity between Western and Indian Aesthetics” in the XVIIth Sanart International Congress of Aesthetics, on the theme “Aesthetics Bridging Cultures”, held at METU, Ankara, Turkey , from 9-13 July, 2007.

•  Delivered the Keynote Address on 12 September 2007 in the Two-day UGC-Sponsored National Seminar on “Social and Cultural Issues in Postcolonial Indian English Novel”, held at D.A.V. College , Titillagarh, Orissa, from 12-13 September 2007.

•  Inaugurated and delivered the Inaugural Address as the Chief Guest in UGC-Sponsored State Level Seminar on “Contemporary Indian Novels in English: Overviews, Views and Reviews”, organized by the Department of English, P.D.Women's College, Jalpaiguri, W.Bengal, from 22-23 Februart 2008; also chaired one Technical session.

•  Participated as Invited Speaker in Seminar on “Post 1960s Trends in Indian Literature”, organized by Jamshedpur Women's College, Jamshedpur, from 29 February to1 March 2008 Delivered lecture on “Post 1960s Trends in Indian English Literature” .

•  Attended as Invited Resource Person the meeting of the Course Writers for PG Diploma in ‘Folklore and Culture Studies' in the School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies, IGNOU, held on 10 and 11 March 2008 , at the Convention Centre, IGNOU, New Delhi .

•  Attended as Invited Resource Person the meeting of the Course Writers for ‘Editing Books for Children', a part of the PGDBP, IGNOU, held on 12 and 13 March 2008 , in the School of Humanities , IGNOU, New Delhi .

•  Delivered the Key-Note Address to National Seminar on ‘Translation and its Contexts', organized by the Department of English, Dibrugarh University , Dibrugarh , Assam , from 26-27 December, 2008.

•  Delivered Plenary Lecture as Invited Resource Person to the UGC – Sponsored National Seminar on “Recent Trends in Literature of the Diaspora”, organized by the P.G. Department of English, Khallikote [Auto] College, Berhampore, Orissa, from 25th-26th February 2009 ; also chaired a session.

•  Participated as Invited Resource Person in Golden Jubilee International Seminar on ‘Literatures in English in Asia and the Asia Pacific: Reconfiguring the Cultural Map', organized by Department of English, The University of Burdwan, from 17-18 February 2010; chaired a session.

•  Participated as Invited Resource Person in National Workshop on ‘Teaching the Short Story in English', organized by the Department of English, Sambalpur University, Sambalpur, from 20-21 st February 2010; delivered the Key-Note Address.

•  Delivered Seminar Lecture on ‘Keats's Nightingale and the European Tradition' in the Department of English, Manipur University on 26 April 2010.

•  Delivered speech , ‘My Philosophy of Teaching' at the Annual General Meeting of ELLA (English Language Lovers' Association), West Bengal, held on 27 June 2010, at Instiut de Chandernagore, Chandannagar.

•  Joined the 6th World Shakespeare Conference at Kolkata December 11-15, 2010 on “Shakespeare in Theory and Praxis across the Globe, in the land of Tagore; Through Translations, Adaptations, Performance and Criticism.” as an invited Resource Person ; chaired a session.

•  Gave ‘Opening Remarks' in the 2 nd International Conference of IASA (Indian Association for the Study of Australia, Eastern Region) on ‘Remapping the Future: History, Culture and Environment in Australia and India', held in Calcutta from 22-24 January 2011; also chaired a session.

•  Gave Key-Note Address in National Seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Indian English Literature', organized by Indian Association for English Studies, Balasore, held in Balasore, Orissa, on 30-01-2011.

•  Gave ‘Invited Talk' at the UGC-sponsored National Seminar in English on “Translation: Theory & Practice”, held at Women's College, Tinsukia (Assam) from 12-14 th February 2011; also chaired a session.

•  Gave Key-Note Address (10 March)in the UGC-sponsored National Level Seminar on ‘Rabindranath: In the Light of the Present', jointly organized by the Departments of Bengali, English, History and Sociology, K.K.Das College, Baishnabghata, Kolkata, and held from 10-11 March 2011.

•  Participated (11 March) as a specially invited Resource Person in the seminar on ‘Rabindranath: Sŗşţi O Sraşţā', held by the Department of Bengali (DSA), Burdwan University, from 10-11 March 2011; chaired a session.

•  Participated in the XXIVth Ezra Pound International Conference, held in Institute of English Studies, University of London, London, from July 5-9, 2011, and presented paper entitled “Pound's Tristan : A Noh Play” on 8 July 2011.

•  Gave the Key-Note Address in the UGC-sponsored National Seminar on ‘Eco-Criticism', organized by Bonaigarh College, Bonaigarh, Orissa, India, and held at Bonaigarh College from 20-21 January 2012.

•  Gave a course of four lectures on ‘Literature and Film' during the period from 10-11 February 2012, in the Department of English, North Bengal University.

•  Gave the Key-Note Address in the UGC-sponsored National Seminar on ‘Rabindranath Tagore and the West', held at Ramkrishna Sarada Mahavidyapith , organized by the Departments of Bengali, English, History & Sanskrit, from 16-17 February 2012.

•  Gave Valedictory Address and chaired two sessions in the International Conference on ‘Myth, Orality and Folklore in World Literature (with Special Reference to Rabindranath Tagore), organized by School of Languages and Literature, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, J&K., from 29-31 March 2012.
